Darrel Prohaski PTSD Freedom Group

In Loving Memory of Sergeant Darrel Prohaski July 5, 1942 –March 23, 2022

Trauma affects everyone on some level. But for some, they never seem to recover totally. Their desires for life and the ability to function are suddenly snatched away. You wonder if it will ever come back. Many turn to alcohol and drugs. Many are placed on highly addicting prescription drugs to function; I happen to have my own experience with this after suffering acute PTSD after Hurricane Michael on October 10, 2018, in Panama City, FL Stress produces so many health issues, Heart, Kidneys, Digestive to mention a few physical aftermaths but then there’s one that is worse than all. The loss of your mind, the loss of memory; my psychiatrist said this protects us; when we are traumatized, part of our brain shuts down to keep us from losing all of our minds. And it may never come back.

What about our Veterans?

The leading causes of homelessness among vets are PTSD, social isolation, unemployment, and substance abuse. We are committed to bringing change; our support group will help tremendously with social isolation. We hope to provide housing through the support of donors. Our mentoring programs will give them a sense of responsibility. Our public speaking events and workshop will increase their learning. Could you help us give them back life? One that is worth living? All group meets daily.
